FILM REVIEW
STAR TREK:GENERATIONS
I took my wife to see this for her 39th birthday (hope she doesn't
read this!) - and to be honest expected to be bored. It's not that
I dont mind Star Trek - but right at the moment I'm suffering from
a surfiet of Trek stuff - anniversary mags/special mags/whole sets
of videos covering one whole wall of our local HMV/Star Trek on
Satelite TV/Star Trek on BBC2 - repeats of older Trek films/
Trekmaniacs learning Klingon in California (they're translating
the Bible into Klingon for some obscure reason!)....etc,etc ad
Trekiam.....
So,it was with some little trepidation, a regular coke and a ketchup
dripping hot dog, I made my way into the cinema prepared for a fairly
boring, same ol',same ol' couple of hours....and was suprised. The
moment the film started and I saw James Kirk again - I went from
puzzled to confused to deep shock as he was killed within ten minutes
of the films opening! What's going on I thought? What's Scotty doing
in it? Where's Jean-Luc? All was revealed in the plots within the plots,
(hope they used an Amiga somewhere in there???).
Then you realise why it's called Generations - it says it all.
I came out at the end of the film pleasantly suprised - I had actually
(and me a definite non Trekkie/non-Red Dwarf etc person) thoroughly
enjoyed the whole experience.
I'm giving nothing of the plot(s) away - you have to see it if you like
Sci-Fi......oh and hot dogs!
